Centre for Suicide Prevention
Suicide prevention is a major public health challenge and one of the key elements of current mental health policy. The Centre for Suicide Prevention at The University of Manchester brings together a number of projects that aim to inform future policy and service planning. It is one of the United Kingdom's foremost research centres in the field of suicidal behaviour. Home of The National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Homicide by People with Mental Illness (NCI / NCISH) research project, which examines all incidences of suicide and homicide by people in contact with mental health services in the UK. Also examines cases of sudden death in the psychiatric in-patient population. Aims is to improve mental health services and to help reduce the risk of these tragedies happening again in the future.
